What can be chipped, can be fell! - MEAZS [1]
MEAZS (/miːʒ/, MEE-zh) is major character in doughbyte. He is a prominent figure to all 13 Rockbiter tribes, acting as the chieftain of Clearstone during the story's events. He is the father to ZEHAL, husband to ELLAI and brother to JAKAL.
Appearance
MEAZS is brightly orange scaled, has a pair of distinctive light pink, downward-curling, forward-pointing horns, and has deep purple eyes. He wears a dark brown knee-high skirt, and is sometimes depicted wearing a skull of unknown origin atop his head and a pair of bone-colored pauldrons. He carries a simple axe with a single long blade and a hook on the opposite end, which is described to have inscriptions of ZSUNG. [2]
Characterization
MEAZS has a passionate and bombastic personality, infusing all his actions and words with optimistic flair. He embraces the role of his leadership and thrives in the spotlight. Though he expresses great tenderness and love to his family, in particular ELLAI, he can be candid to a degree that they sometimes find distasteful. [1] [3] CASEI describes him and his family as "loud, energetic, and prideful." [4]
He is adept at hand-to-hand combat and is shown to be eager to pass this training on to his son.
Plot events
Duel with ROMAL
In the process of a tradition to "defend" chieftainship, the newly-recognized ROMAL fought against and lost to MEAZS in a duel in the Clearstone arena. MEAZS takes ROMAL's right horn, but lets her live and keep her title, though not without expressing his deep distaste for ROMAL's "poisonous demeanor," her people, and their decision to live in the Ashmorgue, threatening that she never appear in Clearstone uninvited. Death of ZEHAL
During a ritual known as "starseeking", ZEHAL and his fellow starseekers were attacked by one or more Arbeasts. All of the starseekers, with the exception of ZEHAL, were slain in the attack. [1] Unfortunately, he did not escape unscathed, as he barely managed to get away in a mortally wounded state. Luckily, his life was saved by CASEI, who looked after him for nine rotations before he succumbed to his infected wounds. [5] [6] [7] Upon making contact with MEAZS for the first time, CASEI shared this information with him. [1] With the heir to the chieftainhood of Clearstone now dead, ELLAI is set to become the next chieftain, assuming MEAZS dies before her. [4]
Murder of AURAK
MEAZS is most notable for the sudden and unexpected assassination of AURAK, the CHEVRIN king since the beginning of the story. [8] The king's abrupt death led to the rapid scaling of the CHEVRIN invasion of the Caldera, changing its purported goal from the filling of the Glaciercreek reservoir to a full genocide of the Llokin race, and prompting the Church to reconnect with the ostensibly long-estranged Glacierdwellers. [9] [10]
Shortly after the king's death, the Church was locked down and MEAZS was discovered by IGLAS, who captured and gravely wounded him. However, supposedly impressed by MEAZS's resilience, IGLAS let him escape and declared MEAZS would be made the new CHEVRIN king should he return. [11]
His fate is currently unknown.
